Special Education Coordinator
Ware River Consulting has a unique opportunity for a full-time Special Education Coordinator to support Pine Ridge School in Pine Ridge, SD. The Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of the Pine Ridge School Special Education Program including planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a quality education program for special needs students while ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Child Find Coordination/Management
Collaborate with school leadership to meet Child Find requirements.
Identify, locate, and evaluate students for special education services.
Develop and implement Child Find policies and procedures.
Provide annual training to staff and community agencies.
Ensure pre-referral processes are followed.
Special Education Program Management
Maintain and manage special education caseloads and schedules.
Support staff based on student IEP needs.
Coordinate and attend IEP meetings; maintain master IEP calendar.
Ensure timely evaluations and delivery of related services.
Collaborate with staff and agencies to support students with disabilities.
IEP Oversight and Implementation
Review SPED files for compliance prior to ISEP review.
Ensure procedural safeguards and due process are communicated to families.
Promote parent engagement with BIE advisory board.
Guide case managers in developing behavior intervention plans.
Ensure IEPs meet IDEA and BIE standards.
Provide technical assistance and professional development.
Data Reporting and Compliance
Prepare and submit data reports with school leadership.
Monitor program activities and documentation for IDEA and BIE compliance.
Respond to data calls and support federal reporting requirements.
Implement corrective actions and maintain documentation for audits and reviews.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with academic training in special education or school psychology.
- Valid state licensure or certification for Special Education or School Psychology.
- 3–5 years in school-based special education leadership.
- Experience with Tribal communities, schools, or BIE-funded institutions preferred.
- Proficiency in special education law, IEPs, and instructional strategies.
- Must obtain and maintain valid state driver’s license.
- Indian Preference Preferred
Requirement: Must be able to pass a Bureau of Indian Education background check.
